I had the pleasure of talking with Carlee Smiddy, a junior small forward on the girl's varsity basketball team at Defiance High School and received some insight on how the season is going so far.
Interviewer: So how is the team doing so far this season?
Carlee: Our season started out rough and not at all as planned. As we have progressed, we have had perks and have had downfalls. My coach likes to joke around with us and call us the team of unknown. We have a lot of potential to do well during games, however, we struggle to put the little things together.
Interviewer: Do you think there is anything you guys can improve on?
Carlee: There are several minor things that we can improve on to glorify the big picture of things. They are just simple things that when fixed, will make us a bigger force to be reckoned with.
Interviewer: What has been the highlight of the season so far?
Carlee: The highlights for my season personally has got to be the games that we have battled from behind in. For example, a couple of weeks ago we played against a very good Whitmer team. We were down at half time and went on a 17-0 run in the second half to come back and make it a very intense game.
Interviewer: If you could describe the team or the program in one word, what would it be?
Carlee: Unique.
Interviewer: What do you look forward to for next season?
Carlee: I look forward to the returning players we have next season. I feel that we will be able to implement our strengths because we have all been playing together for quite some time now.
Interviewer: Do you have any advice for upcoming players?
Carlee: My advice to upcoming players is to work hard and be coachable. Even if you're lacking certain athletic abilities, if you work hard and are able to be coached, people will notice you.
Thank you so much to Carlee for allowing me to get some of the inside scoop on the team and how the season is going so far. Don't forget to check Carlee and the team out in action on Saturday as they take on the Findlay Trojans! Good luck Bulldogs!
